Osmosis
A downloadable game for Windows
Welcome to Osmosis! Where you traverse abstract formative memories to form your own sense of identity by collecting fragments of your free will and using them as weapons to defeat the avatars of oppression. Your anonymity is shown as you are a line! You see worms and a box, WELCOME!
In our game, you play as a character that represents your true self, searching for your identity in a world filled with societal pressures and oppressive systems. At the start, the character is a vague, outlined figure, symbolizing being lost in the complex meanings of life. The world around you is abstract and challenging, reflecting this sense of confusion.
As you explore, you enter different "boxes," each representing a memory or life experience shaped by society's control. The characters you meet are humorous and exaggerated, masking their true nature—some will help you, while others hide their intentions. The playground environment you move through symbolizes the freedom and joy of childhood, where communication was easy and life was simple. However, now you’re invisible, and you attach pieces of playground equipment to yourself to create a unique avatar, rediscovering your identity and meaning through these interactions. As you build your avatar and form bonds with the "free" characters who become your friends, you gain the strength to confront a powerful figure that represents capitalist oppression. In the battles, as the silhouette figure attacks you like a bullet hell, you might lose parts of your avatar, forcing you to retrieve and rebuild while under fire attack, creating a sense of survival and the ongoing struggle to find and defend your identity. If you succeed, you enter the digital realm, where you must again forge your identity, resisting societal pressures to conform to predefined digital personas shown in screens of animation, so you have to make your creature in a way that is not like other characters. Here, the silhouette figure attacks with malware and viruses, adding a new layer of challenge.
Finally, in the game’s climax, you’ve broken free from control, fully discovered your identity, and now stand in a city with the allies you’ve made, ready to take down the ultimate capitalist figure
